The Bumthang Cultural Trek is a 5-day trek that takes you through the Bumthang Valley, one of the most important cultural and religious centers in Bhutan. The trek passes through several villages and monasteries, including the following:
Jakar Dzong: This is the main dzong (fortress) in Bumthang and is home to the district’s government offices.
Jambay Lhakhang: This is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan. It is said to have been built by Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism.
Kurjey Lhakhang: This monastery is dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava and is said to enshrine his body print.
Tamshing Monastery: This monastery is home to a famous statue of the Buddha Shakyamuni.
Ugyencholing Palace: This palace is located in the Tang Valley and was once the residence of the royal family of Bumthang.
In addition to the trekking, the tour also includes visits to other places of interest in Bumthang, such as the following:
Phobjikha Valley: This valley is home to a large population of black-necked cranes.
Chimi Lhakhang: This temple is dedicated to the fertility god, Drukpa Kunley.
Mebar Tsho (Flaming Lake): This lake is said to have been created by a fire-breathing dragon.
The Bumthang Cultural Trek is a great way to experience the rich culture and history of Bhutan. It is also a challenging but rewarding trek, with stunning scenery and plenty of opportunities to learn about Bhutanese Buddhism.
The best time to go on the Bumthang Cultural Trek is during the spring (March to May) or fall (September to November). The weather is mild during these seasons and there are fewer tourists.
