The Lhasa – Mount Kailash – Guge Kingdom and toward to Nepal exit Zhangmu trek is a pilgrimage tour that takes you to some of the most sacred places in Tibet. The trek begins in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, and takes you to Mount Kailash, a holy mountain that is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.
Mount Kailash is the source of four great Asian rivers: the Indus, the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, and the Karnali. For Hindus, Mount Kailash is the throne of Shiva, the god of destruction and regeneration. For Buddhists, it is a giant natural mandala, or sacred diagram.
The trek also takes you to the Guge Kingdom, an ancient kingdom that was once a center of Tibetan Buddhism. The Guge Kingdom is home to the ruins of several monasteries, including the Toling Monastery and the Tsaparang Monastery.
The trek is physically demanding, as you will be trekking at high altitudes. However, the stunning scenery and the spiritual significance of the places you visit make it all worthwhile.
